ESTIMATED LOSS $25,000;
TO REBUILD AT ONCE
_______

By Special Wire to The Courier.
Olean, N. Y., Jan. 1.--About 6 o'clock this morning the glass demijohn factory of the Boley Manufacturing Company, a concern which the Board of Trade bought here from Brooklyn, N. Y., last spring, was burned. The employees were just arriving for work when the roof of the enginehouse, which is attached to the building, was blown in the air and the other building immediately attached broke into flames. This leads the owners to believe there was an explosion, it being used fro fuel for the furnaces.
Supt. Griffin said today that about 200 hands would be temporarily thrown out of work, as the factory would be rebuilt at once for the filling of the large number of orders on hand. He said that loss was about $25,000 and the insurance about $15,000. The buildings were built for the factory and were of cement blocks. The glass house was not damaged much but all of the other buildings suffered total loss. Temporary quarters are being arranged for the coverers.

OLEAN FACTORY FIRE.
________

OLEAN, Jan. 2--(Special).--The plant pf the Boley Manufacturing Co. was destroyed by fire yesterday morning as the result of a gas explosion in the engine room. Watchmen Reel and Westcott were startled about 6 o'clock to see the roof blown into the air and flames shoot from the storehouse. They immediately rang in an alarm, but before help arrived the whole structure, except the glass blowing department, was in flames. The cement walls soon fell. The company came here from Brooklyn last spring on an inducement given by the Board of Trade, and its business, making demijohns, was increasing. It employed about 200. A message from Mr. Boley today states that they will rebuild as soon as possible, and he gave orders for temporary places to be gotten until the factory is completed.

Special Dispatch to the Democrat and Chomical.
Olean, Jan. 1.-The plant of the Boley Manufacturing Company, which came here from Brooklyn a year ago and which manufactured glass demijohns, was burned this morning, entailing a loss of about $25,000 and throwing about two hundred hands out of work. The fire is thought to have been caused by the explosion of gas, the engines having been run by natural gas from the local field.
Workmen and two watchmen were about the building when suddenly the roof of the engine house flew into the air and the whole structure immediately took fire. The factory is situated in the north district where there is a volunteer fire department, but their efforts were useless.
The walls of most of the buildings fell this afternoon. John Griffin, the super-intendant, stated to-night that the factory would be immediately rebuilt.

Sites Being Considered

The Boley Manufacturing Company's site, a part of which has since been sold to the Wood Alcohol Company. This is located at North Olean, just beyond the Erie tracks and not far from Union street. It now contains less land than the company would probably require, but more might be had in the vicinity.

Notes:

Bottles marked E / 36 Hutches have a Boley Mfg Co. plate.

The Lipsohn & Goldman appears to date prior to 1896, when Goldman was on his own. As it is marked "Boley Mfg Co." the manufactory would date to at least 1895. Lipsohn was a bottler in New York city in 1892-1894.

Frank Lassner was at 230 Bond Street in 1909, he was at 410 Magnolia in 1905 and 1907. Bottle is marked 230 Bond and Lassner & Co. indicating a post 1907 date.
