FIRE AT POSSILPARK.-About two o'clock on Saturday morning fire was discovered to have broken out in the Saracen Pottery, Possilpark, belonging to Messrs. Bayley, Murray & Brammer. When the alarm was given the fire had obtained a good hold on the building, but the fire-hose, &c., belonging to Messrs. Walter Macfarlane & Co., Saracen Foundry, was promptly turned out, and thru the exertions of the men in that firm's employment the fire was got under before the arrival of the Glasgow brigade. They, however, went over the premises and saw that all was right, and that there was no danger of further outbreak. The damage, which was principally confined to the warehouse, is considerable, but is covered by insurance.

DISPUTE BETWEEN PARTNERS.--At the Sheriff Small-Debt Court yesterday-Sheriff Balfour on the bench-an action of damages was brought by Campbell Murray, 245 Saracen Street, Possil Park, against John Grieve, 20 Wilton Street, under the following circumstances, as stated in the summons:-"To loss, injury, and damages sustained by the pursuer through the defender having on Wednesday, the 9th day of July, 1897, and within the premises occupied by the firm of Murray, Grieve & Co., Saracen Pottery, Possil Park, of which the pursuer and defender are partners, violently assaulted the pursuer by seizing hold of the pursuer by the beard, and threatened to smash the face of the pursuer, and that before, and in the presence of, John Steel, postman, and Arthur M'Brady and Andrew Crawford, both potters in the employment of Murray, Grieve & Co.-to said less, injury, and damage, L25, restricted to L12." Evidence as led in Support of the Summons, in the course of which it appeared that the assault was committed in consequence of a dispute in regards to receiving letters. Both men, the postman stated, went forward to him on the occasion in question to get letters, and Murray got one, while another was secured by Grieve. Grieve, being apparently annoyed at Murray getting any letter, got hold of him by the beard with his left hand, and raised his right hand in a threatening manner. The Sheriff, in giving judgment, said that this was a painful case, arising as it did in connection with two partners, who were so ill-greeing among themselves independent altogether of this alteration. In regard to the case before him, he believed that Steel had told a truthful story, and taking all the circumstances into account, he believed that the assault had been committed. It was not a case for normal damages, and he thought he was assigning substantial damages when he gave decree for L4.

The long-pending dispute between the partners of the Saracen Pottery, Possill (sic) Park, has now been taken out of the Court of Sessions, having been settled by compromise. Mr. Murray, one of the partners, having, I believe, received a sum of money, 400l., and his expenses in the action, and in return he has renounced all interest in the firm, which is now Ellis, Grieve, & Co., instead of Murray, Grieve, & Co., as formerly.
